Jac and Frank Smits were trained in the 1960s by their father, Johannes Smits, an instrument maker and repairer who worked for Schenkelaars in Holland before emigrating to Australia.
Gerard Smits is a former carpenter and was trained in instrument repair by his father Jac in Australia,
Bernd Moosmann at Moosmann Bassoons in Germany and at the Buffet-Crampon factory in Mantes-la-Jolie, France.
Hans Smits has been in the music products industry since 1965, when he worked for Palings (the then importers of Scandali accordions), leaving there to work in the family repair and retail business, Smits Music, in 1971. He has a wealth of experience and his knowledge of accordions is encyclopaedic.
